Institutional Structure of the Grama Panchayat

The Grama Panchayat is a local self-government institution responsible for implementing development activities, public services, welfare schemes, and infrastructure development in rural areas.

 

President

  • Political and administrative head of the Panchayat
  • Presides over meetings
  • Provides leadership for development activities
  • Official representative of the Panchayat

Vice President

  • Performs the duties of the President in their absence
  • Undertakes specific administrative responsibilities

Grama Sabha

  • All registered voters are members
  • Provides opinions and suggestions on development plans
  • Participates in social audits

Panchayat Committee

  • Governing body consisting of Ward Members
  • Makes policy decisions
  • Approves development plans and projects

Standing Committees

  • Finance Committee
  • Development Committee
  • Welfare Committee
  • Health and Education Committee

Grama Panchayat (Elected Body)

Elected representatives representing the various wards.

  • The people directly elect one member (Ward Member) from each ward.
  • The Panchayat Committee is formed by all the Ward Members together.
  • The committee takes policy decisions for the Panchayat.
